Other Stuff

Apart from being a portfolio website, this is where I experiment and play with CSS. This site uses a XHTML Strict 1.0 Doc type and CSS that validates — yay!

Basically validation means the web page a developer/designer has created is free of grammar and syntax errors. It helps with cross-browser, cross-platform and future compatitibility.

Unfortunately all browsers don't render equally, if there are errors in the code the browser may try to interpret what the designer intended, or decide to just ignore elements it can't understand. This means some webpages may look different to what the designer intended when viewed in different browsers, or not work at all. Validation isn't a magic bullet, it won't eliminate these issues — but it does reduce them.

I think it's important for someone who claims to be a web designer to be able to write valid code, errors reflect poorly on the website and the designer/developer. I guess it's like writing your CV and not bothering to spell check. You might have typed everything perfectly, but it doesn't hurt to check.
